Windows Seven : The Next Generation

Windows Seven (codename: blackcomb) is the future generation of windows operating system, originally announced in February 2000, that has been subject to major delays and rescheduling. It is expected to be the combination of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.As of February 2007,the name of the Operating system was kept secure by Microsoft, though Windows 7 is working name of the project.

Windows Seven, formerly known as blackcomb, is just a major revision of windows and mainly focuses on the interaction between the user and the computer. In 1995, after the launch of Windows 95,for the first time, the start concept was introduced and it made Bill Gates to make a future generation desktop with all the programs in an 3D environment and makes the user to switch to various programs at his/her wish.He scheduled to launch Vienna in 1999 but due to launch of XP and Vista he postponed to 2009. While Windows Vista was intended to be an evolutionary release, "Vienna" is targeted directly at revolutionizing the way users of the product interact with their PCs.

Vision :

On February 9,2007, Microsoft's Ben Fathi claimed that the focus on the operating system was still being worked out, and could merely hint at some possibilities:

"We're going to look at a fundamental piece of enabling technology. Maybe it's hypervisors. I don't know what it is" [...] "Maybe it's a new user interface paradigm for consumers."

Concept:

Bill Gates, in an interview with Newsweek, also suggested that the next version of Windows would be more user-centric.When asked to clarify what he meant, Gates said: "That means that right now when you move from one PC to another, you've got to install apps on each one, do upgrades on each one.Moving information between them is very painful. We can use Live Services to know what you're interested in. So even if you drop by a [public] kiosk or somebody else's PC, we can bring down your home page, your files, your fonts, your favorites and those things. So that's kind of the user-centric thing that Live Services can enable. [Also,] in Vista, things got a lot better with [digital] ink and speech, but by the next release there will be a much bigger bet. Students won't need textbooks; they can just use these tablet devices. Parallel computing is pretty important for the next release. We'll make it so that a lot of the high-level graphics will be just built into the operating system."

Features:

Vienna will also feature the sandboxed approach discussed during the Alpha/White Box development phase for Longhorn/Vista. All non-managed code will run in a sand boxed environment where access to the "outside world" is restricted by the operating system. Access to raw sockets will be disabled from within the sandbox, as will direct access to the file system, Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), and complete memory addressing. All access to outside applications, files, and protocols will be regulated by the operating system, and any malicious activity will be halted immediate. If this approach is successful, it bodes very well for security and safety, as it is virtually impossible for a malicious application to cause any damage to the system if it is locked inside a metaphorical glass box. As well, this sand boxed environment will be able to adapt itself to the code base it was written for. This will alleviate most problems that arise from back compatibility when a new operating system is made. Another feature mentioned by Bill Gates is "a pervasive typing line that will recognize the sentence that [the user is] typing in.The implications of this could be as simple as a "complete as you type" function as found in most modern search engines, (e.g. Google ), ENSO, or as complex as being able to give verbal commands to the PC without any concern for syntax. The former has been incorporated to an extent in Windows Vista.

Need For Speed Prostreet

I am a die hard gamer of this NFS.I started it all when i was studying eight grade with NFS:Hot Pursuit because it was the only game that worked well with nice graphics in 1.1Ghz Pentium 3 desktop computer. Then i played a little in NFS Underground 2,Most wanted and Carbon but i havent finished the whole game yet.Even carbon was not easy to play on my computer as i had 512MB RAM.I have written the development of the Need For Speed in a little precised form.

NFS,the brand which changed the name of Racing Video games developed by Electronic Arts and released in most of the platforms like PC, PlayStation,PS2,PS3,PSP,Game Cube,Xbox,Xbox 360.EA released the first NFS in 1994 in which the players have to race and win the games inorder to unlock other tracks and cars. The first attempt is to provide a realistic simulation of car handling and physics without arcade elements except Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, which is the most realistic.

Check out this teaser trailer of NFS Prostreet :

In 1997,they released NFS2SE and in that they made countrywise tracks and introduced the knockout racing mode where the last person of every lap is thrown out of the game.it recommended graphics card like 3dfx Voodoo and Voodoo 2.Later NFS:Hot pursuit was released which had cop chasing and busting. It also included audio commentry from CDROM.NFS:High Stakes had mountain racing and split screen was developed for 2 player racing. The opponents are equipped with AI and they all have different driving characteristics. From NFS:Porsche Unleashed the simulation of car handling and physics became realistic. And later NFS:Hot pursuit 2 was developed for pursuit racers.

In 2003,they made NFS:Underground with illegal street racing culture on the roads in the nights with tuner for modification of the car.Nitro made realistic to feel the speed of the car.Inspired by the Fast and the Furious Series they developed the Underground which had different genre of racing games like Circuit,Sprint,Drag,Drift,Checkpoint,Speedtrap.By betting money for racing and spending them for the car modification.

In 2005,the Most Wanted become on nerve for NFS lovers. It included the free roaming around the streets like GTA.It mainly concentrated on Pursuit and introduced and had various heat levels in which the AI of the police is increased. It included Blacklist and there are 15 of them to finish the game.Rap sheetsNightmode racing of Inital D:the movie and Tokyo Drift made them to create NFS:Carbon which had racing in the canyons and had realistic lighting in the game.It recommended 1GB Ram and 128 Graphics Card to feel the smooth performance.

Coming October, the eleventh NFS, ProStreet will feature next-generation graphics aiming for a more photorealistic feel, and more advanced physics. It will also be the first Need for Speed game to include damage modelling since porsche unleashed. The new damage system is said to be very accurate, a collision with any object in the game world may render a car useless, or damaged.

Hackin Toolz

I write this blog to share some of the hacking tools i have known.Hope everybody might have known the fundamentals and i dont think i need to start it from scratch.Hackers is of two types: Internal and External

Internal hackers pose the greatest threat to the IT systems of the world's largest financial institutions, according to the 2005 Global Security Survey.

1. GetAdmin - This is a hacker utility which exploits flaws in MS Windows NT 4 OS and changes the administrative privilege of an account ie.any guest account can be changed to an administrator of the network.
Note:It doesn't work in later version of windows
2. PipeUpAdmin - It is same as GetAdmin. But it works in MS Windows 2000.It has more enhanced features than GetAdmin.

Privelege Escalation is the process of exploiting a bug in an application to gain access to protected resources in the network.Cross Zone Scripting is a type of attack in which a website subverts the security model of web browsers so that it can run privilege escalationmalicious code on client computers.Vulnerability can be reduced by installing server packs and patches.

Password sniffing is an act of finding the password to gain access to the main system.
LC4 or L0phtCrack - This the most frequently used software for password sniffing. The good intention of this is that if the system admin has forgot the password then he can find the password within a minute. The bad intention is that it is used by hackers who can get all the passwords of a company within a minute. It usually uses the dictionary attack.

Session hijacking is the act of taking control of a user session after successfully obtaining or generating an authentication session ID.T sight Realtime - Once this software is connected to another system, the whole system is hijacked.A new window is opened in the hacker window and whatever the victim types over there Tsight display it in the hacker screen.

Port scanning software imply sends out a request to connect to the target computer on each port sequentially and makes a note of which ports responded or seem open to more in-depth probing.nmap is the mostly used software for port scanning.

Atlast i would conclude by listing some of the trojans and hacking tools with their use:

1. smbdie - This can kill the computer
2. netbus - trojan which can access the victim computer
3. elitewrap - this binds two exes which is used to combine a data file with a virus.

Firefox 2.0.0.4 vs IE 7.0

Internet, one of the man's greatest technological development in which the whole world depend upon in later years. It has been a decade until now,Internet Explorer has bagged the first place among the web browsers and not anymore when Mozilla corporation launched Mozilla Firefox in 2004.In 1995, after the launch of Microsoft Windows 95,IE dominated the opera and netscape. In last few couple of years IE has been kicked back in the web arena by firefox and google. This blog is about the cold war between IE and Mozilla in recent years.

Recently in 2006, IE 7.0 has been released which seems to everyone that it might be the most comfortable web browser but it wasn't true as Mozilla launched Firefox 2.0.0.4 which still remained powerful in blocking intrusion thefts and phishing attacks. The Mozilla Foundations hired SmartWare, a business strategy firm, to release a study comparing the 2 products and their anti-phishing features.

Check this CNET Prizefight Comparison :

According to SecurityFocus, "Firefox 2.0 blocked 79 percent of the malicious sites just using the local black list of phishing URLs and blocked 82 percent of phishing sites using the real-time Google filtering feature. Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7's anti-phishing features blocked only 66 percent of the sites with its auto-check feature enabled and only 2 percent with the autocheck feature disabled."

The security site also mentioned that "there were 243 instances where Firefox 2.0 blocked the phishing site, but Internet Explorer 7 did not. Another 117 instances where Internet Explorer 7 blocked a phishing site and Firefox 2.0 did not. In 65 instances, neither browser's anti-phishing tool blocked the site. The PhishTank data is not used by either browser as part of the decision of whether to block a site or not, according to Mozilla."

The future developments of Mozilla is that Firefox 3.0 has heightened my expectation because of its new functionality called FUEL ( Firefox User Extension Language) which seems to reduce the amount of time in developing addon.Already there are lots of addons and plugins for Mozilla and this might change the people's mind to mozilla. Some of the addons :

1. Sage
2. Scribefire
3. FireFTP
4. Greasemonkey
5. Foxytunes
6. Yoono
